Steeped in Trouble: Japanese Tea Graphic Clothing

Tea has more going on than a quiet cup. Steeped in Trouble takes distinctive Japanese tea references and gives them the scale of a small disaster, a game or a living creature. The designs are interested in leaves, tools, foam and the moment a ritual gets wonderfully out of hand.

Inside Steeped in Trouble.

Your Move makes Goishicha tiles a tactical game. Full Froth sends paired whisks into overdrive, Cloud Nine builds an impossible mound of foam and Culture Shock releases leaves from a fermentation barrel. These are imaginative artworks inspired by tea, with each design named and shown in full.

Good questions.

Which tea references appear in the artwork?

The collection names Goishicha in Your Move, Batabata tea in Full Froth, Bukubukū tea in Cloud Nine and Awa bancha in Culture Shock. The illustrations exaggerate their objects and actions into playful scenes; they are clothing graphics, not tea-preparation instructions.
